A picture of myself with Ivan, the Madagascar Hissing Cockroach. Picture taken by Sarah Szczerbinski.Hello! My name is Veronica Steinmetz and I am a freshman at the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse. I am originally from a small city in southeastern Wisconsin called Hartford. I made this webpage as an assignment for my Spring 2012 Organismal Biology class. Although it has been a lot, and by that I mean a seemingly never ending pile of work that has caused me to become very familiar with my dorm's computer lab and the frightening noises it sometimes makes, it has been worth the effort. Throughout the whole process, I learned more about the peanut that I ever thought I would, successfully stumbled my way through learning how to create a webpage, and (often in the computer lab) met some people from my dorm and even my cube that I had never met before.

A picture of me and a friend at dinner. I'm the one on the left. You can't really tell, but my hair is much shorter in this picture. That's how it is now. Photo courtesy of Liz Rosendale. The reason I chose to do my webpage on peanuts is quite simple: I really like peanuts. In fact, one of my favorite things to have with breakfast is a piece of toast with peanut butter and honey on it. Peanuts have always been a favorite ice cream topping of mine, and peanut butter cookies are my second favorite type of cookie (narrowly losing the first place spot to Snickerdoodle cookies). Also, there is this great peanut butter frosting that you can make to put on cake or something. If you want to try it out, you can find it on the page that talks about the various uses for peanuts. If you don't want to go through all this trouble preparing your peanuts for consumption, then go ahead and just eat them as a snack. That's what I do sometimes. Shells and all. It's delicious.

Now what are my interests, you ask? Well, I'm kind of a contradiction. It's interesting. I love animals (especially my dog, Buddy) and have always, and I mean always, wanted to be a veterinarian. I am currently aMy dog, Buddy. Because he had to appear somewhere. Picture taken by me. Biology major, biomedical science concentration, on the pre-vet course track. However, next semester, I will be taking some communications classes in preparation to change my major to Broadcast and Digital Media. But I still  want to be a vet, so I'm keeping the pre-vet track. Yeah... trust me on this. And also, to add to my seemingly random interests, I am also a musician. I play the violin in the orchestra, French horn in the symphonic band, marching cymbals in the marching band, and I thoroughly enjoy playing in all of them. I'm just a bundle of interests.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my website. If you need to contact me for some reason (questions, comments, etc.), I can be reached by email at steinmet.vero@uwlax.edu. If you feel like looking at some other web pages created by some of my classmates, then you can go to Multiple Organisms, the home page of all the organismal bio and animal bio websites. I recommend it. There are some pretty cool pages there.

Return to the home page.

Go back and see some web pages about other organisms.
