Asclepias syriaca

Contact Me

Hello, my name is Breanna Baumann. I am a student at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse, class of 2015. This web page was created for an assignment for my organismal biology class spring semester 2013. I am working towards my major in biology concentrating on biomedical sciences and a minor in chemistry. Following graduation, I plan to go to graduate school and become a Physician Assistant. I would like to attend the program that is starting next spring in my hometown of Wausau, Wisconsin where I was born and raised. I was the oldest of five children and believe I have been a great role model for my younger siblings.

If you read the habitat page, you know that one area the Asclepias syriaca resides is in the Midwest region of the United States. When I was a kid, I remember playing with milkweed plants; they were abundantly growing in the field in my backyard. I would pull out all of the pollen of the fruit and let the wind take it. I also remember squirting out the milky sap, which I now know is poisonous. These memories are the reason I chose to create my website on this species. Another plant I came in contact a lot as a child that my mother grew was daffodils, which also have some poisonous properties. While researching the common milkweed and creating this website, I learned a lot, and I hope you did too as you read each page. Thank you for visiting my page! If you would like to contact me for any reason, feel free to e-mail me at baumann.brea@uwlax.edu.
