A common dolphins’ megapod can contain up to 10,000 dolphins and be 5 miles wide.

Common dolphins can produce directional sounds to let the dolphins in the back know when to turn or do certain things.  This is called an acoustic beacon.

Delphinus delphis can reach up to 9 feet and weigh as much as 300 lbs.  The common dolphin was the dolphin used as Greek and Roman mythology. 

Common dolphins have extremely good eye sight that allows them to focus on seeing above and below the water at the same time.

The mothers will look over their young and will discipline them if they are using manners. 

They will care for their sick by using their fins to keep the sick common dolphins afloat.  

Delphinus delphis actually play.  They will ride off of ships waves and pressure waves that are made by large whales. 

The only predators that prey on the common dolphins are the killer whales and sharks.

Dolphins have been noted to survive for up to 50 years in the wild.

A mature dolphin can eat up to 30 pounds of fish per day.

Dolphins can leap up to 20 feet in the air.
