Why This Organism?

After given guidelines on what organisms to choose, we really wanted to find an organism that has a chemical defense that is both powerful and poetic. This tiny little ant is willing to sacrifice its own life for the safety of its fellow colony members, and especially for its queen. We found this to be extremely interesting because we have never come across an organism that does something so unique. Its ability to protect the rest of the colony reflects on interactions in other organisms, even humans. Other people should take interest in this ant for that reason, as well as find it fascinating how the ant reflects a "moody" behavior.

FUN FACT

In the video gaming world, a new adventure game was released in 2013 called The Last of Us. This game is a sci-fi post apocalypse thriller in which the gamer plays as a survivor trying to find safety. The whole world is covered by fungus-covered zombies which make horrifying clicking noises that make you want to lock all the doors, and hide under the covers. The cool part is, the idea of these zombies sparked from the real life fungal infection mentioned in our  interactions page(Tested 2013).
