Habitat
There have been many studies on where Punctum minutissimum has its niche.
P. minutissimum lives in
habitats around the world mostly in Holarctic ecozones; which
includes North America, Europe, North Africa, and Asia. The
snail is also found in South Africa and the pacific islands
(Martin, 2000). It was found that
P. minutissimum likes heavily
decaying leaf litter of destructed understory vegetation (Kralka,
1986). P. minutissimum also likes rock outcrop, upland, and
lowland forest sites. (Nekola, 2003).
P. minutissimum can often
be found around the polypore and bolete fungi (see figure
to left). This little gastropod will settle anywhere that has
fallen decaying leaf litter in mild to cool climates.
