Habitat
Stagnicola walkeriana has a very
limited range in northern and northeastern Wisconsin and
southern Ontario, Canada as shown on the world map above. It
lives in Lake Michigan and Lake Superior
(Baker). In Lake Michigan it
lives on the shore of Wisconsin's Door County near Sturgeon Bay
(Baker).
In Lake Superior it lives on the Apostle Islands and the shore
of the Bayfield Peninsula in Bayfield County, Wisconsin
(Baker).
In the waters of Lake Superior the snail lives on rocks or rocky
ledges along the shore, typically a meter or less below the
surface (Baker). Its habitat in Lake Superior is usually on the
protected sides of islands and close to the shore, but in Lake
Michigan near Sturgeon Bay it may be found on exposed to the
waves on rocky ledges (Baker).
