Mesodon sanus

Eukarya

Eukarya is one of the three domains of life. Eukaryotes have evolved the ability to engulf food by phagocytosis or endocytosis (Encyclopedia of Life, 2012). Another characteristic of this domain is that they can form endosymbiosis which have led to a more complex metabolism (Encyclopedia of Life, 2012). Eukarya have also developed an elaborate cytoskeleton and specialized compartments separated by membranes (Encyclopedia of Life, 2012). This domain is also characterized by a nucleus surrounded by membrane (Hickman et al., 2012). This domain is split into three separate kingdoms which consist of Plantae, Fungi and Animalia (Hickman et al., 2012).
