Mesodon sanus

Gastropoda

The species Mesodon sanus is found within the class Gastropoda.  Gastropods are found in marine, freshwater, as well as terrestrial environments (Encyclopedia of Life, 2012).  This class is found pretty much everywhere except in the extreme polar areas (Encyclopedia of Life, 2012).  Gastropoda consists of slow, inactive animals because almost all of them have large shells and possess slow locomotive organs (Hickman et al., 2012).  A common characteristic found within this class is torsion, which is the process in which the mouth and the anus are located in the same region (Hickman et al., 2012).
