Random Facts!
- Shells can range from 5mm to 7mm
in diameter (specific species) (Baker 1939). The shells can
also be globose (spherical shape) or depressed
(Baker 1939). Tooth-like projections are
displayed on various shells as well (Baker
1939).
- Young individuals are hard
to identify possibly due to their peristome or
lip not being reflected (Baker 1939).
- If snails are motivated enough, in 5 minutes
they could travel one meter (Foss 2012)! They
can even travel a football field and back in one
night, that is if they possessed enough
determination to do it (Foss 2012).
- Snails tend to put themselves into dormancy, which is similar to hibernation until their habitat becomes wet again (Foss). This is referred to as estivation because it is dependent on wet or dryness (Foss 2012).
- Almost all contain a distinct grove on each side of the body. The snail has a granulated body that is twice as long as the diameter of the shell (Baker 1939).
Millerelix shell's have 6 whorls with a deep flat shell (Baker 1939).
Their peristome is also thicker with a yellow
color on the outer lip of the horn (Baker 1939).
