Facts

B. ternarius can sting repeatedly without harming itself.  However it is not an aggressive species of bee (Evans 2003).

All bumblebees, including B. ternarius, have a coating of dense, branched hairs called plumose (Papp 1972).

Bumblebees make up 25% of the order Hymenoptera (Papp 1972).

This particular species of bumblebee does not produce honey (O’Toole 2002)

Female B. ternarius have large hind legs adapted for gathering and carrying pollen (Papp 1972).
