Fumonelix jonesiana was first described by Archer in 1938 (Pilsbry 1940).

It is 12.8-13.5 mm in length (Dourson 2006).

The snail usually contains 5-5.5 whorls on its shell (Dourson 2006).

It is listed as threatened in the state of North Carolina (Dourson 2006).

Fumonelix jonesiana has a larger parietal tooth than its close relatives which gives it the common name of Big Toothed Covert (Dourson 2006).
