Random Facts

-Very little is known about biology or behavior. Larvae have never been discovered. The flattened appearance suggests that the adults probably spend much of their time close to the ground hiding in cracks and crevices.(Reynolds 2005)

-The only member of its genus, the Merope. (Mcleod 2005)

-First specimen gathered by Edward Doubleday in 1837 in New York. (Pechal 2011)

-Only other extant species in family Meropeidae is Austromerope poultoni, found only in Australia.(Allen 2002)

-Uncommon in collections and seldom encountered, but more regularly collected over the last few decades (and in more states), may be due to increased use of flight intercept traps.(Mcleod 2005)
