The Frankiniliella tritici is most commonly known as a flower thrip. The domain they are found in is the eukarya because it has more than a single cell. It is then found in the animal kingdom and is also in class Insecta because its and animal and it is identified as an insect according to the head, thorax and abdomen appendages that all the other insects have and the six jointed legs. The order name Thysanoptera comes from the Latin words Thysanus- meaning tassel, and ptera- meaning wings. Thrips mean woodworm. The insects in this order must have the tassel like or fringe haired wings to classify them under this order (
Terry, Beers, Cockfield 1993).

The word Frankiniliella means slender body with fringed wings. Other common names include thunderbugs, stormflies, thunderflies, and cornlice.
