Interactions

The interactions of the Upis ceramboides contain only a few since the darkling beetles are known to hide or burrow within their habitat.  They interact with the snow or ice crystals that are forming around them.  As said in both Habitat and Adaption, they use their xylomannan molecule to repel water and are able to keep their water within them.  (Science 2012)

The roughened darkling beetle also interacts with wood or dead wood that they burrow in.  They must burrow to survive such harsh conditions.  They also burrow into the ground before it gets hard from the low temperatures.  They also must scrounge for plants that they eat. (Nutrition)
