Polygyridae and Praticolella candida
Reproduction
The Gastropods are a class that includes both dioecious and hermaphroditic individuals(Hickman et al., 2009). Little is known about the specific reproduction information on Praticolella candida, but it is safe to assume they share similar reproductive qualities as other land snails. Land snails are likely to engage in sexual reproduction, where two snails exchange genetic information(carnegiemnh.org).This commonly occurs in the earlier months of summer, depending on location and permitting weather conditions. Self-fertilization is also common in many land snails.
In the early months of summer, land snails lay their eggs, typically under logs, dug holes, and other low disturbance areas(Baker, 1939). The many eggs laid will hatch in about a month from which they were laid, about mid-summer, depending on favorable weather conditions(carnegiemnh.org).
For many snails, certain times of the year are more suitable for mating. As stated in the aforementioned, eggs are laid during the early months of summer/late spring, so mating occurs soon before. Land snails may also engage in certain, lengthy mating rituals. Overall, reproduction in gastropods varies greatly among species, and hopefully there will be continued research on various classes and/or species(carnegiemnh.org).
