Longear Sunfish (Lepomis megalotis)

          Lepomis megalotis is commonly found in the shallow waters of the freshwater lakes of North America. This member of the Sunfish family appears in a variety of colors, especially the males. Their trademark of appearance is the ocular flap, which is an elongated gill cover used to protect the gills. (Mullaney, 2003).
