Adaptation

The Longnose Gar has developed multiple layers of scales for protection.  The scales are rhomboid shaped and interlock with each other.  There are two layers of scales.  An outer made up of ganoin and an inner layer of isopedine.  With these scales, the Longnose Gar has no predators.  Only alligators have been reported to attack the longnose.

The Longnose Gar's swim bladder allows it to live in areas of low oxygen.  It even gives the Longnose the ability to live outside of water if it's wet.

The Longnose's size also gives it an advantage.  Adults can grow to be five to six feet in length.  This also cuts back the amount predators the Gar has.
