Contact Me

My name is Melissa Curler and I am a freshman at the University of Wisconsin La Crosse. I am currently majoring in Biology with a concentration in Biomedical sciences with minors in Chemistry and Nutrition. I am currently interested in pursing a career in the health field, however I am not too sure what I want to do yet. I grew up in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. I have always been interested in plants because I have grown up around them my whole life. This project brought my attention to the medicinal purposes of a house plant that we actually have in my home. I was completely unaware of the potential that this plant has. In my spare time I enjoy fishing, biking, being outdoors, and photography. I am also a HUGE Milwaukee Brewers fan!

My personal experiences with the genus Hibiscus have been simply amazing. At my house we have a hybrid of the Hibiscus rosa-sinensis that has flowers that reach up to nine inches in diameter. The image to the left is a a photo of one of the Hibiscus flowers we grow in my front yard. I would like to mention that I did not zoom in at all on the flower. That is how large the flowers are!
