Adaptation
Due to the changes in certain climates, Arthrospira platensis has evolved into totally new species. In Hawaii, the high exposure to sunlight and optimal composition of the water has changed the original species, Arthrospira platensis, to Spirulina platensis pacifica. This new type of spirulina is larger, faster-growing, and richer in beta-carotene.
This should not be confused with genetically engineered organisms. This new species was evolved via natural selection. No outside help was used except for natural processes.
Even though this new species is loaded with beta-carotene, Arthrospira platensis has many outstanding nutritional qualities.
