Facts

At first glance, quokkas look like rodents. However, they are actually marsupials!

Although they are marsupials, they have small hind legs.

The affectionately have the nickname "Kangaroo Rat." (Nocon 2003)

Unlike other marsupials, quokkas don't use their hind tail as a "third leg."

They hunt for their food instead of grazing!

"Hunting" is perhaps a bad word because these little critters are herbivores. (University of California 2005)

Quokkas are extremely friendly and often come right up to tourists (shown in the picture below). Yes, we are talking about the wild ones. Cool, huh?
