California Meadow Vole: Microtus californicus

Microtus californicus, commonly known as the California Meadow Vole, is a small rodent that closely resembles a mouse. They live in an area of the united States that ranges from Eugene, Oregon to El Rosario, Baja California, Mexico (Cudworth and Koprowski 2010). M. californicus varies in size and color depending on where it lives and is active during day and night. They have a long breeding season while the lifespan is quite short. Because populations can be very large, they are a common prey species to a variety of predators.
