domain - eukarya kingdom - animalia phylum - chordata class - reptilia order - squamata family - phrynosomatidae genus - phrynosoma species - phrynosoma cornutum The Texas horned lizard is made up of complex cells that have membrane bound organelles. This classifies it in the Eukarya Domain. It also is multicellular, motile and has a non photosynthetic metabolism which get it into the Kingdom Animalia. It is part of the Phylum Chordata because of its vertebrate and notochord. Its coldblooded, external plates and lungs for respiration make it a Classy Reptilia. It has a highly modified skull with a single temporal opening like the others in its Order, Squamata. It is part of the Phrynosomatidae Family because of its spine covered body. Horns on its head, a flat body and a short tail is why it is classified under the Genus Phrynosoma. Finally, it is the Species, Phrynosoma cornutum because of its two occipital horns and its widely spread femoral legs (Smith).
