Cultivation:

Because of their elegance and beauty moth orchids have been grow by hobbyist and florist for decades. They can live quite well in a greenhouse that provide enough shade, high humidity and warm temperatures. Many Phalaenopsis orchids can also be grow in a house if they are taken care of properly. Click here for a more detailed description of orchid care from Lynn Rawe. Many hybrids exist because of breeders who have sought after perfecting the large, intensely colored moth orchids flowers. Once a breeder creates a species that he/she likes it will be propagated by exploiting the plant cell’s totipotent properties. In a sterile lab, a florist will cut apart the nodes and place them on nutrient rich plates. The nodes pieces will sprout into keikis, which are clones of the parents. Growers have chosen to take the symbiotic fungi out of the picture because of the complex interactions between the two organisms. If seeds are being reared, they are also grown a nutrient rich plates. Cultivated flowering orchids are sold as decorations. Phalaenopsis orchid, like Phalaenopsis sago lisa, are widely popular because of their long lasting flowers.
