Phalaenopsis orchids grow wildly in nature in the Far East, primarily in warm, humid climates such as Assam, Burma and the Philippians. This type of orchids flourish in area where the temperature ranges from 75° F to 95° F and annual rainfall around 80 inches a year.

Phalaenopsis orchids are epiphytes, meaning that they can be found growing on the trunks and branches of trees. They do not harm or take energy away from the tree. They only use the tree to gain a better position in the forest. By obtaining a higher position the plants are exposed to a cooling breeze which allow the orchid to withstand more intense sunlight exposure that may have otherwise burn the plant out at ground level. Phalaenopsis orchids also are visited more frequently by pollinators and less frequently by pests when they are off the ground. Today, many phalaenopsis orchids are grown by hobbyist in indoor greenhouses or in well heated homes.
