Does your species provide food for other organisms?

The Marten has very few natural predators. A young fisher falls prey to hawks, foxes, lynx and bobcats. The adult marten at its full size is big enough to protect itself from most animals that it had to fear when it was smaller. Since the marten has very few natural predators it is near the top of the food web.

Are there any human uses or effects on humans?

The martens have been greatly effected by the impact of humans. In the 1800-1900’s martens were trapped in great numbers and their numbers were devastated. Since then humans have tried to reintroduce martens into the wild. Most of these programs have been proven successful.

Besides trapping, the fishers have also been impacted by the settling of marten habitat. The Marten has been known to kill domestic cats and chickens.
