Usually found throughout warm, tropical, and subtropical waters of the world’s oceans, the man of war floats on the surface of the ocean.  Although most commonly found in the open oceans, the man of war can be directed into shallow waters or washed up on beaches by the waves.  In general, the Portuguese Man of War is found in the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, and Caribbean Oceans and is especially common in the Sargasso Sea.  However, there have been many reports of Physalia washing up on beaches in England, Wales, and Ireland.
