Ramphastos toco has a fairly easy breakdown of its classification. Domain: Eukarya (Eukaryote, membrane-bound organelles, chromosomes are linear, most multicellular, Mitosis for cell division) Kingdom: Animalia (heterotrophs without cell walls, locomotion is a distinctive characteristic) Phylum: Chordata (Notochord, Dorsal tubular nerve cord, pharyngeal pouches, endotyle, and postanal tail sometime within lifetime) Class: Aves (Disproportionately long neck, wings, feathers, air cavities in skeleton, beak with no teeth) *Fun organisms within this class: Emperor and Macaroni Penguin and Caribbean Flamingo Order: Piciformes (Arboreal, nest in cavities, feed on fruit, Zygodactyl feet) Family: Ramphastidae (medium-large size birds, brightly colored and contrasting black, white, red, yellow, green and blue plumage, very large bills, bare skin around eyes, short rounded wings, long tail, strong legs) Genus: Ramphastos (Largest of Toucans) Species: Ramphastos toco (Largest Bills out of species within genus) |
