Where do baby Kohlrabi come from?
Young Kohlrabi aren't technically babies but without considering
them as such I couldn't use the dreaded "Where do babies come from
question?" that almost all parents dread answering. Kohlrabi is a
member of the Anthophyta, a phylum of flowering plants. Therefore it
reproduces sexually through seeds. Kohlrabi is a vegetable, not a
fruit so the seed is not borne inside the vegetable. Wild
Kohlrabi will flower and produce pollen that can be carried to other
plants by other organisms such as insects. One example of an insect
that may aid in the reproduction of Kohlrabi is the
European
Honey Bee. The seeds will then sprout when
conditions are favorable (eg. moist). Kohlrabi is also a commercial
vegetable so seeds are harvested with the vegetables and saved to be
planted during the next growing season.
Now that you know quite a bit about Kohlrabi, lets see how it
interacts with some other organisms.
Or, as always you can go back to the main page.
