Western Australian Christmas Tree

(Nuytsia floribunda)

Welcome to the life of Nuytsia floribunda

Here is a short video I created to hopefully convince you to continue to browse my website and learn more about this unique organism.

 General Description

Nuytsia floribunda, more commonly known as the Western Australia Christmas tree is a 10 meter tall tree that is native to southwest Australia.  It contains many unique and defining characteristics such as its parasitic roots and seasonal fluorescent, yellow-orange flowers.  These characteristics evolved specifically to enhance the survival and reproduction rate of this organism.  The parasitic roots capture more water and minerals for the tree, and its colorful flowers increase the chance of pollination by the numerous insects that inhabit Southwest Australia.
