About this website

About this project:

This project (creating a website) was assigned to organismal biology students at the University of Wisconsin –La Crosse(UWL). The goal of this project was to become familiar with a specific organism (of the student's choice) in order to appreciate the vast diversity in life.

Students were expected to use what they learned in class and apply it in analyzing information about their individual organisms. Each year UWL student’s are asked to construct a website on an organism that has never been previously picked by another students, the goal is to have a website for every organism on earth!

To view other organisms done by other students, please visit :

About the website creator:Bayan Shaheen

Thank you for visiting my website! My name is Bayan Shaheen and this website was actually constructed to fulfill a requirement for my organismal biology class. I am going to school for my undergraduate degree, in biomedical science with a minor in chemistry, at the University of Wisconsin- La Crosse. I hope to pursue graduate school after I am done with my undergrad and hopefully work in the Medical research field.

For this project we were allowed to pick any organism on the planet! But I was particularly interested in choosing Nigella sativa, because it reminded me of my childhood. When I was young, I used to get sick all the time, and taking antibiotics was not always pleasant, at least for my mom, because it caused diarrhea. So instead, my mother used to give me a teaspoonful of honey with ground Nigella sativa seeds *everyday and it really helped boost my immune system.

I got married two and a half years ago and moved to the states with my husband. We are originally from Saudi Arabia, but I was born in Michigan, Howell.

Last year (January 26 of 2008 to be exact!) we were blessed with a beautiful baby boy; Mohammed :)

Special thanks:
