This phylogenetic tree is based on the classification of Papaver somniferum.  The differentiations are based mainly on morphological characteristics.  The most closely related organisms would fall under then same genus, Papaver.  An example is Papaver glaucum, the tulip poppy, which shares many similar features however varies in regard to its leaves.  P. somniferum has leaves entirely to markedly toothed, whereas P. glaucum has leaves that are pinnately-lobed. The further up the tree (towards the Kingdom) the less closely related the organisms get.
