Habitat & Geography

Myrrh can be geographically found in the Middle East and the Arabian Peninsula. Specific regions that Commiphora is native in include Erythrea, Abyssinia, Somalia, Yemen, and Sudan. The general location of these regions is highlighted in blue on the map below.  These regions tend to be very dry, so the species somehow had to adapt to these unfavorable conditions To see a picture of Commiphora myrrha in its rocky terrain and to learn more about how the species has adapted to this lifestyle, check out the Adaptation/Nutrition page.
