Dromaius novaehollandiae
Habitat
For about 80 million years, emus have existed on the plains of Australia. The emu exists mostly in the coastal regions to the snowfields of Australia, but it barely exists in rainforests or very dry areas.
It is now extinct in Tasmania. It travels hundreds of kilometers a day. Emus have certain features that show it can be suitable for temperate and tropical climatic conditions. The emu is highly adaptable to its environment.
It lives in areas where most animals don't. In the summer, emus are usually the only animals you see. Emus like to live in more open, not very populated places because that way they will be more aware of what is around them.
When the days are shorter, the emus' appetite reduces, and the emus' hormones are triggered stimulating mating. The chicks that just hatched are given great camouflage by the environment. The chicks are stripped with black, brown, and cream, so they are able to blend into the long grass.
