Phylogeny

This is a modified phylogenetic tree from Laboratorie de Genetique et Biophysique des Plantes. It shows the evolutionary relationships between different types of plants ranging from the liverworts to the angiosperms, like Moringa oleifera.  All the plants above are linked together by a common ancestor. This tree is based off of cladistics. This means the relationships between organism are determined by an evolutionary analysis. It compares primitive and derived traits to see which organisms are the most evolutionary advanced and related to each other.

This is a modified tree from the American Journal of Botany. This tree is much less broad than the previous one. This uses ontogeny, the development of the plant, to determine the relatedness between the different Moringa species. According to this tree, Moringa concanesis and Moringa oleifera are the most closely related in terms of their developmental problem.
