Moringa oleifera is indigenous to North West India. It is native to the Himalayan foot hills in India and Bangladesh. Because of how well M. oleifera is able to adapt to different environments, it is distributed all throughout India, Egypt, Thailand, Malaysia, Burma, Pakistan, Singapore, West Indies, Cuba, Jamaica, Philippines, Ceylon, and Nigeria. Recently, it has started to be grown in the United States in Florida and Hawaii. It is well adapted to growing in the tropics and sub tropics. It is cultivated extensively in India and parts of Africa. It's common to find Moringa oleifera growing the backyards of people's homes for leaf and pod consumption. It grows best in temperatures that are between 77 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit (25- 30 degrees Celsius). The annual rain fall that results in the greatest productivity is between 1,000 and 2,000 millimeters (40-80 inches). Ideally, the elevation should be less than 600 meters (1,970 feet). It prefers to grow in well drained, heavy clay soils that process a neutral pH range, but can tolerate a pH which ranges between 4.5 and 9.
