The ostrich is such a cool, rare species- and that is exactly why I chose to research them.  They are a sustainable food resource, and people are finding out how useful they are in other economic ways.  I feel like they have a "dinosauresc" feeling about them, and that makes them even more intriguing.  These birds are starting to be studied more, and definitely recorded more.  There is a plethora of videos on the internet involving the behaviors of the ostrich. Take a look at one of my favorite videos of an ostrich skiing (fake but cool)!

~Since the intestine is so long, it take up to 36 hours for food to pass through it.


The ostrich is the tallest and heaviest living bird!

They love taking baths! When water is accessible, they will be found splashing around.

An ostrich can live to be up to 50 years old.

They have a pouch in their throat that they use for sound and communication.  This includes whistling and snorting on the females part.

The ostrich has the largest eye out of all of the land animals!

It would take around 40 minutes to hard-boil an ostrich egg.
