Popcorn flowers belong to the genus Plagiobothrys.  This genus has more than 40 member plants in California alone (DesertUSA 2014)!

Plagiobothrys nothofulvus is on the endangered species list in the state of Oregon (Amsberry & Meinke 1997).

 

Lewis and Clark collected many samples from the genus Plagiobothrys on their famous expedition (National Geographic 1996).
