Welcome to the home of the modern Velociraptor, also known as the Southern Cassowary Casuarius casuarius.  This website will cover a wide variety of topics relating to the Southern Cassowary from the scientific Classifiction to Interesting facts about this flightless bird. 

Distinguishing features and adaptations that make the Southern Cassowary the “Modern Velociraptor” are the talon on its feet and the casque on the crown of its head.  Head over to the Adaptation page to learn more.
What makes the cassowary special is that it holds the record for the second heaviest bird and the third tallest.  Scientists have only recently started to understand the morphology of this large, impressive bird.
