Hmmmm. Interesting!
Under the old name, Triodopsis multilineata, the snail was actually identified by two different names, based on the size of the specimen. If the snail was larger than 20 mm, then it was identified as T. multilineata. However, if the snail was smaller than 20mm, then it was identified as Triodopsis multilineata algonquinensis. The difference was solely based on size (Brown, 1968).
The name change to Webbhelix multilineata occured in 1988 under Ken Emberton, after reassessing the characteristics of this species, along with many other species in the Polygyridae family. Currently, this snail is the only member of the Webbhelix genus (Emberton, 1988).
