Welcome! This webpage is dedicated to learning about the hornet Dolichovespula maculata.

The animal's common name, Bald-faced hornet, comes from the presence of white markings throughout the body, which differs from the rest of its yellow jacket family. It is a very large hornet, ranging from 13mm to upwards of 20mm. They are a colonial insect, building large paper nests to live in (Swan and Papp.1972). Bald-faced hornets have a painful sting, but may be treated easily with a few simple steps. Here are a few ways to treat and prevent these stings!
