As discussed on the Nutrition page, Belastoma flumineum is a predaceous organism. It can prey on anything from other insects to small frogs. It has a unique relationship with other species members. During the mating season, they will fly from different bodies of water such as ponds to other bodies of water in large groups and tend to flock to lights which give them their neame (Giant Water Bugs 2003). These insects can also have an effect on humans. They have strong beaks which can make for a painful bite on a person (Giant Water Bugs Electric Light Bugs, 2009).
