Kingdom - Animalia: Includes all the animals that are multicellular, eukaryotic, and heterotrophic (Hickman et.al. 2009).

Phylum - Arthropoda: All members of this phylum have jointed legs, a closed circulatory system, a true coelom, and a chitinous exoskeleton (Hickman et.al. 2009).

Class - Insecta: The largest and most diverse group of arthropods. Insects are distinguished by their three pairs of legs and two pairs of wings on the thoracic region of their body (Hickman et.al. 2009).

Order - Coleoptera: This is the largest order of insects it includes the beetles and the weevils. They have biting mouthparts and hard forewings (General Entomology 2009).

Family - Cerambycidae: Includes all the long-horned beetles. The adults have distinctively long antennae, and all are herbivores; all larvae are wood borers (General Entomology 2009).

Genus - Monochamus: Also known as the sawyer beetles. Larvae bore into dead or dying trees, especially conifers (Free Dictionary 2011).
