Lepisosteus osseus
The longnose garfish can be found in several types of waters ranging from large lakes and rivers to sluggish backwaters and pools. The longnose garfish is mainly found in freshwater but on occasion can be found in brackish waters, areas with more salinity. The adult longnose garfish prefers to spend time in shallow warm waters to bask in the sun. This is also a great predation technique for they closely resemble a piece of drift wood, allowing them to get close to their prey(McGrath 2012). The longnose garfish can be found along the eastern seaboard of North America, ranging from Canada to Florida. It can also be found in tropical areas such as Mexico(Kelley 2012).
