Adaptation

All cephalopods have photophores which are light producing organs. Abralia veranyi specifically have photophores on the bottom of their bodies so that when potential predators look above where they are the pattern of light on their body makes them less visible. This type of bioluminescence acts as a camouflage for them (EOL).

They also use the pigment in their skin to change colors and communicate with other squids about mating and territories.

Another type of advantage for them would be that their siphon takes in water and expels it rapidly which allows them to move quickly through the water and avoid predators.

Finally, cephalopods have well developed eyesight. Their eyes are complex and lensed. This allows them to focus better and able to detect prey and other predators.
