First, what are omega 3 fatty acids?

Omega 3 fatty acids are considered to be essential fatty acids and are extremely important in humans. They are believed to help with growth and development as well as help aid in brain functions.  Omega 3 fatty acids are also believed to help reduce heart disease. Research has also shown that omega-3 fatty acids may reduce diseases such as cancer and arthritis. In the brain, the omega-3 fatty acids are believed to be important in both behavioral and cognitive functions. Also, babies who do not get enough omega-3 from their mothers may develop vision and nerve problems. Besides the situations where omega-3 should be used above, there are also many other uses of it. Some uses include diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, bipolar disorder, depression, schizophrenia, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, asthma, menstrual pain and skin disorders. In all of these cases, omega-3 fatty acids have improved the health of people who consume them regularly. Another organism that helps reduce heart disease, high blood pressure and high cholesterol is the black pepper.  The obvious way to receive these omega-3 fatty acids is by eating tuna. You can go to basically any grocery store and find tuna in a can which will contain omega-3 fatty acids. Another way that you can receive omega-3 fatty acids is by taking pills. These pills are called fish oils and the recommended dosage to be taken a day ranges from 300 to 1000 mg.

Why are tuna important concerning omega-3 fatty acids?

Human beings are not able to produce the omega-3 fatty acids in their bodies, so they must turn to another source to receive them. Although there are other sources of omega-3, tuna makes up a huge proportion of the sources. The omega-3 fatty acids can be found in the oils of the fish, thus the pills are called fish oils. However, it is said that consuming fish is a better way to receive the omega-3 fatty acids than taking the pills. Fish not only provide omega-3 but also provide protein and are low in saturated fats.

But why then are Albacore tuna any better than the rest of the tuna or even other fish?

Although eating fish is a good way of receiving the omega-3 fatty acids, many fish have a high mercury level. Mercury is a metal that is consumed by the fish and has drawbacks to humans. Not only can it not be removed from the fish, it can also harm a human’s brain. Because of this, there are limits to how much fish you are suppose to consume and what types of fish you consume. The cool and interesting thing about Albacore tuna is that there is no limit on the amount of it you can consume. Men and women starting from the age of 6 months have no limit on the amount.
