Habitat

Lucilia sericata is found most commonly found in the temperate zone of the northern hemisphere. This organism can be found almost anywhere in the United States. There are over 1000 species of blow flies known worldwide and Lucilia sericata is the most abundant from June to August. Popular places to find this species include on or near fruit, meat, garbage dumps, feces and dead animals. This fly is mainly found in the outdoors and most commonly in farm areas. Adult flies spend winter months in protected areas or in homes. These flies usually rest at night on trees and during the day will be seen near feeding sites. Lucilia sericata likes a warmer and more humid environment. Decaying matter in loose damp soil is a prime spot to find Lucilia sericata because this will help the life cycle of these blow flies run smoothly.
