One interesting fact about "The Immortal Jellyfish" is that it is in fact not a true jellyfish at all. Turritopsis nutricula is classified as a Hydrozoan, meaning that its life cycle always includes a colonial polyp stage. This differentiates it from the Scyphozoa, or true jellies (University of California Museum of Paleontology).
