Reproduction

Because of the nature of C. sloani's habitat, not much is known about its reproduction. It is believed to make use of external fertilization. Spawning is also believed to take place year-round with a peak in late winter and early spring. Conditions in which C. sloani need for reproduction are unknown.

Interactions

The only believed interactions with other organisms and C. sloani are predatory. C. sloani is considered one of the most vicious organisms of the deep sea. There are no known mutualistic or commensalistic relationships involving C. sloani.

There are no known uses of C. sloani by humans, but extensive studies are being done in order to find out more about this incredible organism.

C. sloani has captivated folklore because of its grotesque and monster-like appearance. There is also a lot of interest in the photophores that Sloan’s viperfish possesses, because they have several functions, and are only found in deep sea creatures that live in mostly unreachable sea.
