Reproduction
There is a lot of competition within the mating of the aye-ayes. The males compete for females as she calls them. Her genitalia increase in size to attract males as well. The females are polygynists. This means that they mate with more than one male. They may mate with several over one estrus.
Aye-Ayes are mammals and mate like through sexual reproduction. Also, like many mammals their mating is not seasonal. A female aye-aye is pregnant for about six months. Once the baby is born, they wean from their mother for about seven months. Aye-Ayes stay with their mother for about two years. The age to maturity is different for male aye-ayes and female aye-ayes. For a male it is a little longer than a year and for a female aye-aye it is a little more than two years.
