Recall from the classification page, Streptomyces platensis belongs to the actinobacteria. It is one of the latest bacteria to evolve according to the specific characteristics present on my phylogeny tree.

Also, it is really interesting to see this organism's close relationship with some of the most harmful bacteria for humans. In fact, most of the bacteria that belong to the streptomycetacea family are known for being harmless, however because of few different genes some became dangerous for us. With only a few deferent genes, Streptomyces platensis is closely related to Streptomyces somaliensis. These bacteria cause actinomycetoma, a mycetomal disease known as a chronic disease of the skin and the tissue under it. This disease can be fatal when it is spreading to other organs.

Some other bacteria from the same genus can also attack potatoes! Streptomyces Scabie, Streptomyces acidiscabies and Streptomyces turgidiscabies are the responsible.  Check out the interesting facts for more cool things about the bacterium and what it is related to!

More stranger! Streptomyces platensis are related to one of the most scary bacteria : Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Here is your chance to learn more about this bacterium! click on the link provided. These two bacteria belong to the same order, actinomycetales. Both are characterised by linear chromosomes and according to some research made at the "institute pasteur" center, Streptomyces bacteria and mycobacteria could exchange their genetic information! Streptomycin can be produced from our favorite bacteria, and it is used to fight against tuberculosis, disease engendered by its cousin!

You can say it, that is crazy!!
